Becoming a foster parent is very rewarding. It requires time, space, and most importantly, a big heart! Additionally, having a good sense of humor, solid communication skills, and an acceptance that poop pictures may be involved will help.  

IBR will provide the resources, support, and supplies to help you be successful.  We are continually improving our mentor program, wellness protocols, and training/communication guidelines.  

The most common barrier we hear from people interested in fostering is the fear they’ll end up keeping all the kittens or puppies.  Although the Kitten lady obviously focuses on kittens, her message in these videos applies to both kittens and puppies!!

Fostering saves lives

Key points: Neonatal kittens and puppies are often too young to survive on the streets or with exposure to the diseases in standard shelters.  Shelter staff are not able to provide the round the clock care that these vulnerable babies need.  Without a foster program, many of them are euthanized.  Foster homes also provide the key to raising sweet, cuddly, and adoptable animals: SOCIALIZATION.

GOAL IS GOODBYE

Key points: Saying goodbye to our fosters is a CELEBRATION, even if we are crying.  There are many homes that want to adopt kittens and puppies, but not as many homes that can foster them so they can be adoptable. These babies don’t need us to adopt them; they need us to help them survive and be healthy enough to find their forever homes.   Fosters love their kittens and puppies enough to say goodbye to the ones we raised so we can say hello to the ones that still need to be saved.
