Our Story: A Very Special Rescue

IBR began with a mother-daughter team—Pam and Danielle—doing community service as part of a junior high class requirement. The duo continued their work even after Danielle joined the California Army National Guard and was stationed at their headquarters, which was just around the corner from the old Sacramento County shelter. Danielle frequently found and brought home baby kittens for foster care and later returned them to the shelter for adoption.

In July 2006, they officially incorporated Itsie Bitsie Rescue as a non-profit organization. The first official intake into Itsie Bitsie Rescue was a little orange tabby kitten named Poodywoo, who was adopted by a Colonel in the National Guard.

By March 2011, IBR began to grow, adding more fosters each year, which allowed us to increase our intake from 70-80 kittens annually to over 600 animals annually in 2024.

One thing has never changed: Everyone in the IBR family is a volunteer—there are no paid staff members.

Each year, IBR continues to grow as we provide individualized care to every fur baby that comes our way. If you’re interested in joining our family as a foster or volunteer, click here for more information. For donation opportunities, click here.

  • Kittens and puppies may arrive in towels, boxes, or crates—sometimes alone, or in litters of 2 to 12! Whether they’re sad and pitiful or shy and plump, they come in all shapes, sizes, and conditions.

  • Once they’ve been spayed or neutered, dewormed, vaccinated, microchipped, and showered with lots of love, they’ll be ready to found their forever homes.

CHANGE A LIFE TODAY

When you adopt from Itsie Bitsie Rescue, you save two lives. Not only are you providing a loving home to your new furever friend, you are allowing us to care for other animals that are in need of a second chance too! If you would like to be a part of the process, either adoption or volunteering, we’d love to share this special experience with you.

Highly recommend them! We adopted a sweet puppy from them and it has been a wonderful experience. It isn’t just about adoption but about finding the right home for them which is amazing to see. Our puppy is the perfect fit for us and I’m so thankful we were able to help a puppy in need instead of going to a breeder.

Our family had a wonderful experience with IBR! Such amazing and helpful folks who truly care about finding the perfect forever home for these little babies… Even after we took our kitten Addie home, I was able to stay in contact with IBR with a few questions I had and The response time and care was incredible. We regularly send pics of Addie just to say hi and show our gratitude ❤️! Thank you IBR!!!!

We love this rescue and our new fur babies! The staff was thoughtful, thorough and gave my kids lots of time to help us find the perfect kitty pair. We went home with blankies, food and 2 forever friends.

Adopted one of my cats a few years ago from them, they are amazing and would do it again if my apartments allowed more than 2 cats.
